DORSET will blood two up-and-coming youngsters in their final Minor Counties Championship game of the season at Dean Park.

It has proved a disappointing summer for the county in terms of results but there are high hopes for the future with several teenagers showing fantastic potential.

Lewis McManus, pictured, and Tom Barber have just been called up to the England Under-19 squad for the One-Day Tri-Nation Tourna-ment against Bangladesh and Pakistan, and with Michael Porter currently captaining the Hampshire Academy side and Dorchester-born Ben Ladd-Gibbon recently being linked with Northants, the outlook clearly remains bright.

Masoor Khan and Jake Lintott can also added to that list of rising talents along with JJ Dews and Sam Thomson who will no doubt be keen to take their chance when Dorset tackle Wales over three days, starting tomorrow (11am).

Team manager Sean Walbridge said: “We are delighted to say that promising young spinners JJ Dews and Sam Thomson are available for this last game of the campaign and we also hope that they will both be available for next season as they are very exciting talents.

“Thomson is regarded as the best spinner in the Dorset League and Dews comes with an excellent reputation from Wellington College where he is a student of Tom Hicks.”

Skipper Hicks and Ben Rogers are both unavailable for the clash while Jon Salt and Alex Butler have been left out. Porter and Rupes Kitzinger are scheduled to return with Aaron Williams set to captain the side.
