WEYMOUTH 203 (20pts) beat WIMBORNE & COLEHILL 86 (5pts) by 117 runs

JIM Ryall and Harry Tucker were the stars of the show as Weymouth wrapped up their Dorset Premier League campaign with a fantastic home victory over Wimborne & Colehill.

Since their relegation was confirmed around a fortnight ago, the Seasiders have slipped into a more relaxed gear and it has resulted in their two best performances of the summer.

Their success at Broadstone the previous week with just 10 men was down to aggression and determination but this latest triumph at Redlands was more about their tremendous passion for the game.

Weymouth skipper Matt Lawes told Echosport: “A lot of the lads came off on Saturday saying it was the most enjoyable game they have ever played.

“There has been a new attitude over the last couple of weeks and it has been fantastic.

“Everyone has gone out there looking to enjoy it first and foremost and as a result we have played some great cricket.

“To finish the season with 40 points from our last two games has been a great effort and now everyone just cannot wait for next season when hopefully we can bounce straight back up.”

Having won the toss, Weymouth batted first and found life tough to begin with, scoring just eight runs off the first six overs.

However, Jim Ryall then decided to take on the attack and the outcome was devastating as he went on to score 81, including 15 fours.

Dean Janaway (21), Matt Batchelor (18) and Dave Trotter (23) also chipped in with decent knocks before a fine bowling performance, led by the impr-essive Harry Tucker (5-14), completed the job.

Lawes added: “We started slowly with the bat but Jim then middled one to the boundary and that was it, he was off.

“He ended up scoring 50 in just 40 balls before going on to reach 81 in what was a fantastic innings.

“He was the only one that was really able to score on the day and it made all the difference as we went on to reach 203.

“We then picked up a couple of early wickets before Harry took a fifer in what was another brilliant display.

“We also held our catches in the field with Dean Janaway taking a great one in the slips, and to bowl them out for just 86 was a fantastic effort.”

Weymouth’s other wicket takers were Harry Mitchell (2-2), Lawes (2-34) and Trotter (1-32), while top scorer for Wimborne was Ben Bridgen with 23.
