THIS season in the Read Woodruff Dorchester & District Evening League largely belonged to St George’s and their achievements, along with those of other teams and individuals, who have been recognised.

The Avenue Stadium was the setting for the league’s annual end-of-season presentation even-ing when a number of prizes were handed out.

The Saints won both the Division One title and Doug Read Knockout Cup for a 12th time this summer – seven of those league crowns have come in the last eight years.

Bere Regis took top honours in Division Two while Plush, winners of Division Three, were the only side in the league to finish with a 100 per cent rec- ord.

It was a good season too for Charlton Down whose first team were runners-up in the second tier and reached their first Knockout Cup final before losing to the Saints.

Individually, there were two awards each for Pete Moxom (Dorchester Casuals) and Chris Rabjohns (Winfrith 2nds).

Moxom won the Bugler Cup for most runs scored and Jeffery Trophy for most sixes hit. The Bailey Cup went to Rabjohns as the league’s top wicket-taker while the same player also scooped the C J Knott Trophy for best individual performance (7-7).

Dave Griffiths’ performance in the cup final earned him the Derek Gale Trophy for man of the match and fellow Saint, Tim Goodhew, shared the Stickland Cup with Hazelbury Bryan’s Chris Haynes for most catches.

Martinstown gloveman Ed Nichols took the Dobell Cup for the highest number of stumpings and catches by a wicketkeeper and his club also received the Reg Standfield Trophy for sportsmanship.

Plenty of younger players made their name this year, including Ollie Titterington (Winfrith Seconds), who lifted the Umpires Cup for the outstanding cricketer under the age of 18.

Sam Roles (Charlton Down Seconds) and Steve Tucker (Catt-istock) turned in the best individual performances for under-18s and under-21s so they received the D Ray Trophy and Boothman Trophy respectively.

Finally, Jim Bettle of Hazelbury Bryan was the proud recipient of the Bill Edwards Trophy for outstanding achievement and service to the league.
