BEAMINSTER 110 (3pts) lost to WEYMOUTH SECONDS 116-5 (19pts) by 5 wickets

ANOTHER average showing with the bat cost Beaminster any chance of victory in this Division Two clash.

Home captain Ade Phillips lost the toss to opposite number Pete Gordon and the hosts were put in to bat.

Weymouth opening bowler Graham Puckett (3-28) bowled with great control and set the tone for the innings by dismissing Jack Walklett for nought in the first over.

The visitors continued to take wickets and the only substantial partnership was worth 48 and came from Rich Runyard (24) and Fred Everitt (19).

Beaminster’s score was given some level of respectability thanks to a last-wicket partnership of 35 between Hugh Rathbone (25) and Brian Earl (8no).

Andy Jones was the pick of the Weymouth bowlers, finishing with 4-36 from his 10 overs, and he was supported well by Puckett, with a wicket apiece for Ryan Sers and Joe James.

However, Beaminster, who were all out for 110, showed a good level of determination and fought well in the field, taking five wickets as Weymouth reached their target within 27 overs.

Phillips struck early, removing opposing captain Pete Gordon for five, before dismissing Tom England for 15.

That brought M Jones to the crease and he batted aggressively in his match-winning knock of 56 not out, striking four boundaries and four sixes. He was supported well by Andy Jones (17) and Sers (16).

The leading light for Beaminster with the ball was Will Everitt who claimed 2-38 from nine overs, with the other wickets going to Phillips (2-55) and Walklett (1-22).

MARNHULL SECONDS 296-2 (19pts) lost to BEAMINSTER SECONDS 285-8 (9pts) by 11 runs

DAVE Penman and Dean Hyatt batted valiantly for Beaminster Seconds, but their efforts ultimately proved to be in vain as the hosts lost by 11 runs.

Chasing Marnhull’s 296-2, Penman smashed a superb 110 and Hyatt scored 90 in 45 balls to give Beaminster hope.

However, after they were dismissed the run chase gradually ran out of steam.

Earlier, Barry Lewis had blasted 169 not out for the visitors, with Ollie Boxall and Justin Gurd taking a wicket apiece.
