MARCO Nott is looking forward to leading Weymouth Cricket Club back into competitive action on Sundays, when the season kicks off in the summer.

Nott, who also runs Dorset Senior League football outfit the Balti House, agreed to take up the mantle of captaining the Seasiders’ Sunday squad at the club’s AGM.

“I was doing Portland Seconds on a Sunday last year and I was playing for Weymouth Seconds on a Saturday,” said Nott, who also represented Weymouth’s first team on a Saturday in the Dorset Premier League last term.

“I knew they were looking to maybe start a team up so I thought I’d get on it, it’s closer for me as well and a few of the lads from Portland are going to come over.

“It’s a good pitch and a nice setup down there, the club are going to do quite a lot for me and I am just going to do the captaincy on the field really which is good.

“I’m not sure when Weymouth were last in the Sunday league but it’s been quite a while now. I think they have played friendlies but we are going into it properly so it should be good.”

And the new skipper believes there will be a variety of Weymouth cricketers who will make up the side.

He added: “There are a lot of players at Weymouth who can’t play on Saturdays through work commitments so they are going to play on a Sunday and there will probably be three or four youngsters in there each week.”
