CAPTAIN Kieron Womble is set to return to the Weymouth side for tomorrow’s derby at Dorchester (1pm), and he believes a victory against the county town outfit would be a “big moment” in his team's season.

Womble, who guided his troops to fourth spot in the top flight last term, was away for last Saturday’s spirited display at Redlands which saw Weymouth fall agonisingly short in their defeat to reigning champions Poole.

With the Seasiders and Dorchester looking for their first victories of the campaign, the Weymouth skipper realises the importance of the contest, even though it is still so early in the summer.

He said: “It’s always good to play Dorchester, we both want to be up in the Premier League and, looking at the table, it’s a big game early on.

“A lot of our lads will be up for it, it has always been a decent rivalry and it gets the juices flowing a little bit.

“Both sides are the same at the moment in the fact they haven’t clicked and performed, but there are a lot of decent players on either side.

“Anyone that turns up will put in a good shift I’m sure.

“It will be a big confidence boost for the team that wins because it will lift either of us off the bottom. We will go into it positively.

“You hope once you get that first win the second then follows like it does in sport.

“Once we get that first win it will be a big moment in our season."

As well as Womble, Weymouth are hoping to welcome back Alex Mortimore and Michael Irrgang for the contest.

The captain also hinted that youngsters Dom Webb and Luke Lovett could be involved with the second team this weekend.

Reflecting on their battle with Poole, Womble believes there are good signs to take into tomorrow’s crunch encounter.

He added: “Reading the updates it was a shame we lost but we gave it a good go.

"We haven’t really played well against Poole for a few years but it was nice to run them close, and by all accounts we could have won it. There are plenty of positives to take.

“We want to do as well as we can this year. After the demoralising first game the second was pretty decent, so we are going for the win in this one.”

Elsewhere, Weymouth Seconds take on Dorchester Seconds at Redlands in County Division Three, while Beaminster host Kingston Lacy.

In Division Four, Bridport will be looking to secure their first win of the season when they travel to Swanage Seconds.
