WILL Caldwell and Quenton Miller are set to make their first appearances of the season for Dorchester tomorrow when the county town side travel to Sherborne (1pm).

Captain Simon Mitchem has been unable to call on the duo until now due to commitments with school and work.

The pair come into the Dorchester line-up in place of Dan Morris (work) and Eiron Fitzgerald, who will keep wicket for the second XI against Beaminster in County Division Three.

Mitchem’s men take on Sherborne a week after breaking their duck in the Dorset Premier League this term.

Following defeats to Swanage and Stalbridge, Dorchester picked up their first win of the campaign in the Ridgeway derby with Weymouth.

And while that was a big boost to the team’s confidence, they know just how good Sherborne can be on their day.

Sherborne finished 38 points ahead of Dorchester in winning the Premier Two title in 2014 – they also beat the county town side in three of their four meetings last year, with the other being rained off.

“We had a couple of battles with them last season but didn’t come out on top in any of them,” Mitchem told Echosport. “We played them four times so know a bit about them.

“They played well and we know it’s not going to be easy up there, but we’ve certainly got the ability in our team to win.

“We’ve got our first win now so hopefully that can kick-start our season and we can put together a few wins on the trot.

“It was nice to get off the mark last Saturday but it was more about winning the game than the derby itself.

“We wanted to get the points on the board and that’s what we did, and hopefully we can go to Sherborne and do the same.”

As for Caldwell and Miller, the Dorchester captain added: “It’s good to have them back. Will gives us a lot with the bat and he bowls as well, while Quenton also boosts our batting.

“We’ve got a very strong side this week so we need to go out there and produce.”

Dorchester Seconds also enjoyed a win over their counterparts from Weymouth last time out and look for a fourth victory in as many games tomorrow.

“It’s a big game for them,” said Mitchem. “Stuart Beasley and his men have had a good start to the season and they will be looking to continue that form with a win at home against one of their rivals.”
