SIMON Mitchem insists Dorchester are not pushing the panic button after just one win from their opening five games of the season.

The county town side travel to Wimborne & Colehill tomorrow (1pm) with a four-wicket defeat of rivals Weymouth three weeks ago their only victory in the Dorset Premier League this term.

But skipper Mitchem is upbeat when it comes to his team’s current form – and he reckons they are not too far away from turning things around.

“We’re not panicking,” he told Echosport. “We’re playing good cricket and we’ve just got to keep going.

“We could easily have won the last two games and I’m pleased with how we’re performing at the moment.

“We haven’t had the best of luck but if we keep playing the way we are then I’m sure that will change.

“You need things to go your way in any sport but you’ve also got to make your own luck.

“If we hold our catches and go out and bat and bowl as we can then we’ll be okay.

“Last weekend we could have had 20 more runs, and it’s just things like that which can make all the difference.

“We also bowled a few four balls and maybe didn’t have that experience we needed.”

With Sean Fitzgerald and Steve Clifford back in the side tomorrow Mitchem will certainly have that extra experience at his disposal.

Nick Roe kept wicket during the loss to Sherborne and is going to keep the gloves for the clash with Wimborne & Colehill, who have won three and lost two of their fixtures.

“We are looking good,” added Mitchem. “Sean and Steve are back and they both have a lot of experience.

“Nick came in and did a very good job against Sherborne. He was very impressive considering he hadn’t played a 50-over Saturday game for a while.

“Sean has still got lots to offer the team with his batting ability and experience.”

Eiron Fitzgerald, playing for Dorchester Seconds at home against Kingston Lacy in County Division Three, and Will Caldwell, are the players to drop out from last weekend’s line-up.

Elsewhere, Cattistock entertain Compton House in Division Two, Beaminster go to Ashmore in Division Three and Abbotsbury visit Swanage Seconds in Division Four.

In Division Five, Martinstown Seconds and Puddletown host Broadstone Thirds and Blandford Seconds respectively, while Charlton Down go to Shaftesbury.

Beaminster Seconds welcome Stalbridge Thirds to the Memorial Playing Field in Division Six.
