ABBOTSBURY became the first team to reach the semi-finals of the Doug Read Knockout Cup this season following a 120-run demolition of Cosmos.

The Swans, who ply their trade in Division Two of the league, had far too much for their Division Three opponents.

Abbotsbury went through their innings without losing a wicket as Marcus Evans and Simon Mitchem racked up 204-0.

Mitchem finished unbeaten on 78 but Evans made it to three figures with a score of 106 not out.

Cosmos could not get anywhere near the Swans’ mammoth total. Stuart Montgomerie contributed 36 runs as his side reached 84-6 by the close of play.

The Swans also made it two wins from two with a 58-run victory over Dorchester Casuals.

Mitchem was in the runs again with an unbeaten 58, while Jim Ryall (34) and Will McKay (32) helped take Abbotsbury to 166-4.

The Casuals were bowled out for 108 in reply as they suffered their first reverse of the campaign.

They earlier beat Cerne Valley by 14 runs thanks to two wickets for Dave Trotter, Josh Foot, Tom Blair and Will Channon.

Also in Division Two, Puddletown enjoyed a seven-wicket success against Hazelbury Bryan.

Bere Regis remain unbeaten in Division One after seeing off Cattistock and Martinstown by four and three wickets respectively.

Dan Belt scored a fine 68 in a comfortable win for Dewlish against Charlton Down, while St George’s also beat Martinstown, despite Ross Stewart’s 81.

Meanwhile, in Division Three, leaders Puddletown Reserves thrashed Cattistock Seconds by eight wickets but were then soundly beaten against Plush.

There were also emphatic wins for Winfrith and Cattistock Seconds against Cosmos and Puddletown RFC respectively.
