PORTLAND RT 321-8 (20pts) beat BOURNEMOUTH III 232 (9pts) by 89 runs

PORTLAND blasted more than 300 runs for the second match in a row as they disposed of Bournemouth Thirds at Reforne.

Island batsmen Elliot Sawyer and Simon Proffitt really shone during the County Division Two clash with scores of 93 and 98 respectively.

Home skipper Matt Randell won the toss and didn’t hesitate in deciding to bat first against the side Portland had beaten by six wickets in May.

Openers Chris Leake (31) and Sawyer put on 67 for the first wicket before Leake’s dismissal brought Proffitt to the crease.

He and Sawyer joined forces to compile a second-wicket stand of 158.

Proffitt’s 98 came from just 53 balls and included six sixes and 10 fours, while Sawyer’s 93 off 98 deliveries featured 15 boundaries.

The duo’s partnership set Portland on their way to a total in excess of 300 and it gave the remaining batsmen license to really go for their shots.

Dave Adkins added a brisk 33 as the home side finished on 321, a dozen runs shy of the total they had managed against Branksome & Parkstone the previous week.

Portland were brimming with confidence when they took to the field but knew it wasn't going to be easy bowling Bournemouth out.

And the visitors made a good effort in chasing the runs down before finishing 90 short.

Sashikrishna Asokan top-scored for Bournemouth with 87 until he was caught by Adkins off Proffitt.

Proffit (3-64) continued his good form with the ball but the standout bowler was his opening partner Gary Randell.

He claimed figures of 3-28 and picked up wickets at vital times during the innings.

Matt and Simon Barrett also bowled with good discipline and didn't allow Bournemouth to score too freely.

Captain Matt Randell said: “It’s nice to get another big score on the board but even nicer to be winning.

“Bournemouth were a competitive side but we turned up and showed just what we can do as a team.”
