CHRIS Park admitted he would savour the moment that little bit longer when he walks out to bat for Dorset at Dean Park for possibly the final time.

The county skipper, who has represented the Minor Counties outfit for more than a decade at senior level, was saddened to hear that the Bournemouth-based ground may not be used as the club’s headquarters next season.

It was revealed that Dorset chiefs have already started looking for other venues to play their cricket in 2016 as the pavilion and changing rooms at Dean Park may not be available. Licensees of the ground Park School are currently in the process of applying for planning consent for change of use at the venue.

Park, 32, is set to captain the side at their current home when they face Berkshire in their final three-day game of the season, starting tomorrow (11am).

Speaking about playing at the historic setting for potentially the final time, the Dorset stalwart told Echosport: “I think, in that second innings, when I do walk out to bat and mark my guard I will subconsciously look around a little bit more than I should do.

“I would be scared to think how many games of cricket I have played there over the last 15 years or so.

“It will be an emotional moment for me personally, but also for the senior guys who have played club and county cricket down there over the last 10 years.

“Winning the Championship final down there a few years ago was a real highlight for me personally because I was the on-field captain for that game.

“There are loads and loads of other memories. I have not scored a hundred down there and I will be trying to put that right in the last game of the season as well.

“It’s the home of cricket for Dorset and, potentially, it could be a real shame if we do have to go elsewhere.”

A man that has been right by by the skipper’s side throughout the years is former Dorset captain Tom Hicks, who Park revealed is contemplating retirement from the Minor Counties game after their Berkshire battle.

Park claimed: “I have a sneaky suspicion that Tom is going to retire on Tuesday.

“He has been talking about it all summer. Being a friend to him as well, I know how much it would be a massive loss to Dorset cricket and myself personally to lose a senior player by my side.

“As a friend, I hope he stays and plays more but he has given so much to Dorset cricket and, with family life and work commitments, I am not going to hold him back if he wants to walk away.”
