WEYMOUTH’S players will go to the well one last time tomorrow in a bid to finish their torrid Dorset Premier League campaign on a positive note.

A trip to Wimborne & Colehill (1pm) faces skipper Kieron Womble and his men as they look to record just their second win of a trying summer.

The hosts won the reverse fixture by a convincing 118 runs in June and have their sights set on ending the season third at the expense of Broadstone.

What division Weymouth will play in next year is still unclear, though finishing bottom of the top tier means it certainly won’t be in the Premier League.

“It has been a difficult season for the club and our problems have been well documented,” said all-rounder Simon Browne.

“We’ve now got a chance to take stock over the winter and then go from there.

“We need to get the club at the right level, bring more youngsters on and encourage more people to play cricket.

“I’ll carry on. It’s been disappointing to have a poor season but I have managed to score a few runs.

“My bowling has been pretty average so maybe that’s something I will work on for next year.”

He added: “We’ll go into the game at Wimborne with a positive attitude and try to get something out of it.

“Wimborne aren’t going to win the league and they might have a few selection issues themselves.

“Maybe that will give us the chance to finish the season on a high.”
