SKIPPER Simon Mitchem is extremely positive for the summer as Dorchester look to get their preparations for the 2016 season underway.

The county town side, who finished sixth in the Dorset Premier League last term, begin their pre-season nets on Sunday, February 21 at the 1610 Leisure Centre (8-9.30pm). All new and returning players are welcome.

Mitchem is set to continue his role as first-team captain with James Dunham as his vice-captain.

In the club’s second team, Mike Peak replaces Stuart Beasley as captain and Malcolm Stroudley will be his vice.

“We have had a good winter together, the club is in a really great place and we can’t wait to crack on with the season really,” Mitchem told Echosport.

“Stu (Beasley) is taking some time out of cricket to spend some time with his kids. Everyone at Dorchester is very grateful for his contributions over the years and he will be missed.”

He added: “The club is in a great place at the moment. Everyone is looking forward to getting back.

“We had our AGM in November and 25 people came away volunteering to help with the jobs for the club which is great.”
