WEYMOUTH Cricket Club captain Simon Browne is looking forward to welcoming new players to the side ahead of the new season.

Weymouth will be holding weekly net sessions from Thursday, April 7 between 7-8pm at Redlands Community Sports Hub free of charge.

The captain is hoping to see plenty of new and old faces next week.

“We want as many there as possible,” Browne said. “We want to welcome lots of new people to the team, cricketers who have joined the area and want a game, as well as lots of the old guard.”

The seaside club will also play two pre-season matches as they gear up for their 2016 campaign.

They will face South Petherton on Sunday, April 17 before taking on Portland a week later.

However if numbers are good, Browne acknowledges the need for more friendlies.

“If we get a lot of players at the net sessions, we can set up other games to make sure we are set for the new season," the captain explained.

“Last year we had problems with numbers at the start of the campaign, so we want a good start to the season this year.

“We only have one Saturday side and one Sunday side, so weather permitting, we can field some strong

XIs.”

Browne will lead the first team whilst Marco Nott will lead the Sunday squad.

Weymouth will begin their campaign in the Dorset Funeral Plan County Division One after relegation from the Premier League in 2015.
