CAPTAIN Chris Park says teenagers Max Trueman and Rob Pack deserve their spots in the side for Dorset's first pre-season clash.

Dorset take on Wiltshire at South Wilts Cricket Club tomorrow with the two youngsters set to make their debuts in the 12-a-side contest (11am).

The 16-year-old Trueman plies his trade as a batsman for Parley while the 17-year-old Pack is a left-arm spinner at Bournemouth.

Park told Echosport: "They have both impressed during pre-season training and given that we are without the services of Max Waller, Tom Barber and Jem Warner, there are opportunities available.

"They deserve their chances because of their performances during the winter and long may that continue.

"They can make their debuts and realise the standard that needs to be maintained for Minor Counties cricket.

“We are looking for improvement this season. We ended last year on a disappointing note and Paul (Prichard) has brought in energy and enthusiasm since joining as coach so we can’t wait to get started.”

Paul Prichard comes into the side as coach with a wealth of first-class playing and coaching experience. He is excited with the makeup of the squad and is hoping the side can be competitive across all formats.

He said: "We have a nice blend of youth and experience, so I'm hoping that they can compliment each other.

"I want us to make progress over both formats this year."

Dorset finished eighth in Unicorns Championship Western Division in 2015, one place behind Wiltshire, after winning just one game in a stuttering campaign.

They face a trip to Berkshire for their first competitive game of the season on Sunday, April 24, hoping to get their year off to the best possible start.
