DORSET’S opening pre-season friendly of the 2016 season was abandoned after just more than 10 overs at South Wilts CC.

The contest, which was to mark the first game in charge for new head coach Paul Prichard, was washed out due to rain.

That scuppered the senior debuts of youngsters Max Trueman and Rob Pack, who did not get the chance to showcase the skills that earned them a call-up to the squad.

Bowling first, Chris Park’s side did however claim some early breakthroughs before the rain came.

Both Wiltshire openers were removed for single figure scores, falling leg before to the opening pace duo of Dorset’s James Hayman and Mark Wolstenholme.

Hayman also took the wicket of former Gloucestershire all-rounder Ed Young for just 13, having him caught by Mike Porter at backward point, with what was to be the final ball of the day.

Former Dorset vice-captain Jake Lintott was left unbeaten on nine after being put down at second slip from his first delivery faced. At the time of the abandonment, Wiltshire were 36-3.

Dorset face a trip to Berkshire for their first competitive game of the season on Sunday, April 24.
