DORSET’S preparations for their new season have been dealt another blow as tomorrow’s friendly with Bournemouth Sports has been abandoned due to heavy rain.
This comes just a week after their friendly with Wiltshire was called off after 10 overs had been bowled, leaving them without any proper match time under their belts heading into the clash with Berkshire in the MCCA Unicorns Knockout Trophy on Sunday, April 24.
Dorset’s captain Chris Park was scheduled to play tomorrow – but for Bournemouth Sports, his club side – and he feels the county team are a little under prepared for their 2016 campaign.
“I’d like to think we’re all going to get a game for our club side next weekend,” he explained.
“But it’s not ideal that we haven’t played with each other going into the season, but what can we do with the English weather?
“It’s just a shame for the new coach (Paul Prichard), who hasn’t seen us play outside yet.
“He will have to rely on myself, Barry Lewis and Ian Bradley to make some decisions for the game.”
With tomorrow’s friendly cancelled, the selection committee are set to meet tomorrow afternoon to pick their team, from a squad of 18, for the season opener with Berkshire.
