DORSET captain Chris Park was thrilled with his side’s seven-wicket MCCA Knockout Trophy win at Berkshire on Sunday and thinks there is more to come from his team.

The visitors restricted Berkshire to 235 all out in 48.5 overs, with Sam Thomson and Max Wolstenholme taking three wickets each.

Then a superb century from Lewis McManus, with assistance from Luke Webb, steered Dorset to victory with 11 balls to spare.

There were also supporting knocks from Ryan Scott (15) and Mike Porter (23) to give early company to the centurion McManus.

The only downside of the game was the sickness of Max Waller – Dorset’s other professional – who had to pull out of the clash after 45 minutes with food poisoning.

Despite this, Park was happy to see his charges start the season with a win, even if it was a tense game.

He said: “Looking on the scoreboard, it’s considered a comfortable win but to win with nine balls to spare, there is that bit of pressure.

“But Lewis (McManus) and Luke (Webb) batted superbly to get us over the line.”

Park was very pleased with Mc- Manus’ contribution as he scored 109 off 150 balls with eight fours and three sixes.

The captain added: “This early in the season, to get a century in the first game of the season is fantastic, but just really pleased with the team, the batting, the bowling and the fielding we did exceptionally well.”

After Waller, who is one of Dorset’s key players with bat and ball, had to leave the field Park was impressed with the way his side pulled together.

With their leg spinner out Scott, Jake Lilley and Masoor Khan all chipped with overs in the first innings.

“We fought through and Jake, Ryan and Masoor all bowled well in place of Max.

“It was also nice to see the top order bat as a unit, all five of them contributed to the victory.”

However, the captain was still left wanting more from his side and hopes they can improve their fielding before their next game, which is at home to Cornwall on Sunday, May 8 (11am).

“As a captain you’re always greedy and we could’ve bowled them out for 190 but we dropped three catches and we let 10 runs through the field so there is some areas to work on,” he explained.

“But I’m confident we can keep the ball rolling against Cornwall.”
