ST GEORGE’S 193-4 (20pts) beat PORTLAND RT 190 (7pts) by 6 wickets

OPENER Rob Cole’s superb innings of 97 helped St George’s record a first away win of the season as the beat Portland Red Triangle by six wickets at Reforne.

Cole struck the first ball he received to the extra cover boundary and continued in the same vein for the rest of the innings with an outstanding display of clean straight hitting.

He received good support from Adam Barrett in a third-wicket stand of 91 and was finally dismissed just three short of a deserved century.

Tim Goodhew continued the six hitting to finish unbeaten on 32 as the winning runs were brought up with more than 10 overs to spare.

Earlier Cole played his part with the ball, opening the bowling to take the first two wickets to fall.

Simon Profitt (51) dominated a third-wicket stand of 88 with Tony Quayle (44) before both fell to the slow left-arm bowling of veteran Mark James.

Dave Adkins scored 33 to take his side towards a competitive total but when he was run out, James Barrett and Tim Goodhew ran through the tail as the hosts were bowled out for 190 with seven deliveries lest in the innings.
