DORCHESTER 263 (20pts) beat STALBRIDGE 173 (8pts) by 90 runs

WHILE Dorchester skipper Simon Mitchem is not taking any notice of the Dorset Funeral Plan Premier Division table at present, he insists “if we keep doing what we are doing you never know what will happen”.

The county town side are full of confidence at the moment and recorded their fifth win from six completed games this term with a 90-run win at Stalbridge.

Having been put in, Mitchem’s men responded brilliantly in swinging conditions to post 263 from 49.1 overs.

Pete Moxom reached 50 and fellow opener Dan Belt continued his scintillating form with 48 to set a good platform.

Will Mckay made 41 as batting contributions continued throughout the Dorchester order.

And with a strong score on the board, opening pace duo of James Dunham and Josh Richardson played their part with the ball after the break, wiping out the top six Stalbridge batsmen between them claiming three wickets apiece in the process.

And despite fifty from Stalbridge’s Robbie Knight at number 11, the Rec outfit were always in control to extend their impressive run of form.

“It was a really good all-round performance again,” Mitchem told Echosport.

“We had a really good start with the bat, Pete and Dan batted really well to put on a good partnership for the first wicket, it set a good foundation and Will McKay carried on.

“It was really pleasing to be put in and post a score like that. The only thing that was disappointing is that someone didn’t go on and get a hundred.

“James and Josh led from the front again and both took three wickets. Josh has really settled in now and started to find some rhythm, which is great.

“Everyone is taking responsibility and chipping in. We are playing as a team which makes a massive difference.”

The win means Dorchester are just one point behind league leaders Poole after seven rounds of fixtures but the captain is not focused on the standings at present.

Asked if he will look at the league table now, he replied: “Nope, I won’t look at it. We just want to work week by week and focus on what we are doing. What will be will be with other teams.

“If we keep doing what we are doing you never know what will happen.

“It’s been a very good start and it’s up to us to continue it, we have set the standard of cricket we can play and we have to be consistent and play well every week.”
