DORCHESTER captain Simon Mitchem is still not paying any attention to the Dorset Funeral Plan Premier Division standings, despite it making pretty reading for his side at present.

The county town side reached the summit of the league table last weekend following their comfortable win over Parley and will be looking to stay there with a win at Swanage tomorrow (1pm).

Asked at what stage of the season he would start to look at the league table, Mitchem told Echosport: “Maybe the last two weeks!

“Everyone has told me we are top of the league even though I haven’t been paying attention to it. It’s more important to make sure we are doing things right because, when you are at the top everyone wants to knock you off.”

The skipper added: “I just want everyone’s focus to be on us. If you start thinking about other team’s results you start losing concentration on what you are doing.

“If we stay focused, stay concentrated and keep doing what we are doing we will be there or thereabouts come the business end of the season. That’s the way we are looking at it.”

Speaking about Swanage, Mitchem said: “They haven’t probably had the start they would have wanted but they have still got some players that can hurt teams.

“It’s a case of going there, not being complacent and just getting the job done like we did last week.”
