SHROTON 261-7 (20pts) beat WEYMOUTH 90 (3pts) by 171 runs

SIMON Browne was left feeling frustrated after his 10-man Weymouth side were soundly beaten by Shroton at the Fairfield.

A knock of 74 from Steven Franklin as well as 41 not out from Tony Wooldridge helped the hosts to an above-par score of 261-7.

Dean Janaway impressed with the ball for Weymouth, taking three wickets.

In reply, Weymouth never really got going as they struggled to 90 all out.

Speaking after the game, Browne said: “It’s frustrating more than anything else because I spent a lot of time trying to get 11 for the game, but we went into the game with 10.

“For Weymouth Cricket Club to only field a side with 10 players is not great. We will have a chat with the team and make sure this doesn’t happen again.

“The guys that were there stuck to the task well but it was always going to be difficult with 10 men.

“They just got away from us in the last 10 overs and scored 40 more than they should have.”

He added: “It was difficult but I was really grateful to those that were there.”

Shroton were in dominant mood throughout and this wasn’t helped by Browne only being able to call upon four frontline bowlers for the clash.

He explained: “This meant that I had to call upon Dean (Janaway) to bowl some overs and he took three wickets in his nine overs, which was bonus when I didn’t know where I was going to find those overs from.”

Mark Hardy, playing his game for the club this season, top scored with 16 in Weymouth’s reply but with scoreboard pressure always against them, the visitors struggled to impose themselves.

Ryan Doble and Matt Pike ripped through the top order to reduce Weymouth to 34-4 before Hardy and Harry Mitchell (13) gave some brief resistance for the away side.

However, the result seemed inevitable and the Seasiders were bowled out in 28.4 overs to give them their first defeat in four games.
