DORSET’S Sam Thomson continued his fine start to the three-day MCCA Championship fixture against Wales, before rain washed out the home side’s chances of building a considerable lead.

The Bashley man, formerly of Parley, backed up his five-wicket haul with the ball on the opening day of the contest, by striking his way to a half century on day two.

Having been unbeaten on 23 overnight alongside skipper Chris Park, Thomson had reached 55 not out, including seven fours from 130 balls at the crease, with Mark Wolstenholme (12no) alongside him before wet weather hit.

Wicketkeeper batsman Park failed to add to his overnight total of 44 as he was dismissed early on day two, having been caught by Gareth Ansell off the bowling of Richard Edwards.

Bashley’s Josh Digby was also dismissed leg before for just one by Aneurin Norman, who picked up his first wicket of the contest.

With Thomson still at the crease, the home side, who lead by seven runs having passed the 186 posted by Wales in the first innings, will look to build a bigger advantage early on day three.
