WEYMOUTH were forced to scratch their game against Hamworthy Recreation after they could only muster a team of eight for the game.

This means the Seasiders have been deducted 20 points in the County Division One standings leaving them just one spot above the solitary relegation spot.

They do have a 37-point advantage over Ferndown Wayfarers – the team below them – however, their rivals have a game in hand over them.

Before the game, captain Simon Browne told Echosport that he was yet to finalise his squad but was hopeful he would be able to get 11 out onto the pitch.

He added before the clash: “It’s frustrating and we’re struggling but we will have a team (for the game).”

Browne confirmed that the game had been scratched citing that the lack of numbers would have meant an unfair game for both sides.

This is not the first time that Weymouth have struggled to get a side out this season.

Last month, Browne’s charges took 10 players to Shroton where they lost by 171 runs and were skittled out for 90 in the defeat.

The Seasiders now have one game left this season, where they will face Christchurch at Redlands this Saturday.

In the reverse fixture, Weymouth lost by just one wicket.
