CHARLTON DOWN 59 (0pts) lost to CORFE MULLEN 60-1 (20pts) by 9 wickets

CHARLTON Down’s incredible unbeaten run of fourteen matches came to an end with as they were hammered by nine-wickets against Corfe Mullen.

However, even with the disappointment at losing their flawless record, there was joy back in the club as they found out that Hamworthy, who were in second place, had lost to bottom team Swanage, which ensured the Division Four title was heading to Charlton Down with two games remaining of the season.

Corfe Mullen, themselves on an unbeaten run of eight matches, won the toss and asked Charlton Down to bat which was a surprise on a very hot afternoon.

However, opening bowlers Will Treloar and Haider, who had not featured in the away match, were outstanding.

Treloar recorded fantastic figures of 4-19 and Haider backed him up with 2-16.

After 10 overs the writing was on the wall with the score on 35-6.

Michael Jordan (3-13) and Nigel Stannard (1-10) then snapped up the remaining wickets to ensure no recovery would be made by Charlton Down as they posted a miserly 59 all out.

Corfe Mullen made light work of chasing down the 60 runs for victory with only the loss of Pete Phillips (2), who fell leg before to Dan Stevens but it was left too Weston and Stannard to knock off the winning runs.

That was not to take the gloss off Charlton Down’s title winning campaign however.
