THE new season is just around the corner for the adult and youth teams at Charlton Down, and preparations are well underway for a successful campaign.

Charlton’s Saturday team are looking forward to life in Division Three of the Dorset Funeral Plan League while the Sunday team are to feature in Division One.

Both sides are looking to replicate an incredible 2016 which saw the Saturday team crowned champions, the Sunday team named runners-up and the two evening teams and three youth teams giving strong showings.

The Saturday team won the league and promotion for the fourth consecutive season, and were awarded the 2016 Dorset Funeral Plan League Team of the Year award for the second time, a Dorset Cricket League record.

For the 2017 season, each team is looking to build on last year’s success by welcoming new players to each of the adult teams, as well as to the youth set-up which runs from under-9s to under-15 level.

They will also be looking to enter a team into the new TT25 league, which takes place on a Sunday.

Training sessions are to be held on Wednesday evenings, with under-9s and under-11s’ sessions running on alternate weeks between 6pm and 7.30pm, while the adults and under-15 teams will train from 7.30pm to 9.30pm. All sessions take place at Puddletown Middle School.
