MARTINSTOWN skipper Ed Nichols insisted the onus would be on his side as a batting unit when they face off against Shroton at Lower Ashton Farm tomorrow (1pm).

Nichols’ men were rolled over for just 99 at Dorchester in a defeat on the opening day of the season.

But in home conditions they are used to this weekend, the skipper his hoping to see the top order fire.

“I think we are looking forward to playing on our track for the first time,” he told Echosport.

“It looks great and, by all accounts it played well last week for the seconds.

“We know it is going to be a true track so the onus is on us, as batters to deliver really.

“If the batting comes off I have no concerns about the bowling or fielding side of things.”

He added: “It will be good to get back at home and, with Shroton coming here, it has to be a game you target to win.

“It’s important to get ourselves on the board and get a bit of confidence as well.”

Fraser Hill is set to return for the home side this weekend but paceman Chris Read is unavailable.
