DORCHESTER 123 (4pts) lost to BROADSTONE 213-7 (19pts) by 90 runs

DORCHESTER suffered their second league defeat on the bounce as they were comfortably beaten by in-form Broadstone at the Rec.

The county town side had no answer batting second when chasing 214 for victory, eventually being skittled out for 123 in reply with only Simon Joslin (42) and Josh Richardson (29) the only batsmen to reach double figures.

Jonathan Colegate was the star of the show for the away side on the afternoon.

He made 41 with the bat before doing the majority of the damage with the ball in the second innings, picking up impressive figures of 4-15 from 7.2 overs.

There was also a positive knock of 70 from visiting batsman Danny Hammett. He came in at six and struck four fours and two sixes to help boost what proved to be a winning total for his team.

The result now leaves Broadstone top of the pile on their own, having only dropped two league points from a maximum haul across their first three fixtures.

Dorchester sit fifth, nine points off a top four place at present.

“In all honesty I think it’s a game that we should have won,” said Dorchester club captain Simon Mitchem.

“I think it was very unlucky for us that they got as many as they did, on another day they would have been all out for around 160.

“There were a lot of balls that went in the air which, on another day, would have gone down the fielder’s throat.

“We felt with two of their guys we were very unlucky not to have them out early LBW but that’s just how it goes.

“That’s how it is, they went on and it’s just one of those things.”

Earlier in the day, Broadstone closed on 213-7 form their 50 overs. George Foot claimed 3-56 and there were also wickets for on-field skipper Dan Belt (2-37) and spinner Jack Walklett (2-40)

Mitchem added: “We bowled really well and, on another day, it would have been a lot less.

“I still felt we could have chased the total down. Simon Joslin and Josh Richardson batted well in the middle order but we needed a couple more people to go on and get 30s and 40s and someone, ideally, to stay there, make a big score, and build a platform around.

“It was nice that we had a bit of fight in us, we didn’t give up, but we need more guys to stick around longer.”

Dorchester will be looking to bounce back when they make the trip to Stalbridge on Saturday (1pm).
