MARTINSTOWN captain Ed Nichols insists his side has enough “quality” to trouble reigning champions Wimborne and Colehill in their Dorset Funeral Plan Premier Division clash tomorrow (1pm).

Nichols’ men, beaten twice by the eventual champions last season, were bowled out for 62 against Poole Town last week but the skipper believes it’s not a case of “reading the riot act” to his misfiring batsmen.

He said: “We have got the quality in our team to make sure it’s a tricky game for them because we have strong players through the order. They have had a slow start as well.

“It’s a different situation [to last week] and a change in the conditions. We can go out and bat in a different way, very positively. It’s not a case of reading the riot act to our batsmen.”

Martinstown are set to make four changes for the Wimborne game with Fraser Hill, Liam Banfield, Lee House and Chris Clarke all returning, with Nichols feeling the addition of Banfield will help the home side in the “batting and spin departments.”

Reflecting on a poor day with the bat last weekend, Nichols felt his side could have taken more responsibility.

“It was a combination of poor batting and good bowling, really. It was a tricky surface after a deluge of rain about an hour before. “It played pretty poorly but, myself included, we didn’t take responsibility. But we know our own track will be true,” he said.
