DORCHESTER Cricket Club will host the “talent of tomorrow” when Dorset Colts play Cornwall in a 50-over match at Dorchester Rec on Sunday (12pm).

With a Dorset side appearing at the Rec for the second time in a month, Dorchester clubhouse manager Simon Joslin says hosting the game is part of a wider effort by the club to earn the right to host a full Minor Counties game.

“There’s a bit of a niche in the market now with Dean Park sadly falling by the wayside. We think it’s achievable, we have got the most support we have had off the council in recent years.

“They are providing a really excellent facility and we’re hoping it will be another good day.”

With Dorset sharing their time at a variety of grounds, local clubs were asked to express their interest in the possibility of hosting future matches, and Joslin said Dorchester’s committee were instantly on board.

He said: “All the clubs were asked to see if they were interested in hosting any games. We’ve got a really good committee in place who really get behind these games.

“It puts us up there with anybody else who wants to host them. Dorset want to come back to the right kind of facility. I think we can provide that.”

Joslin revealed that proceeds from the sale of local beers, ciders and wines during the match will be reinvested into the club.

“All the money we get from the game gets chucked back into the club to improve things for the youngsters and the ground.

“Hopefully we’ll see the talent of tomorrow. It’s very exciting and it’s nice to see Dorset coming back,” he added.
