DORCHESTER club captain Simon Mitchem will approach his side’s crunch game away to leaders Swanage in the Dorset Funeral Plan Premier League tomorrow (1pm) in “the same way” as usual.

Mitchem’s men are on an impressive run of four wins and face a Swanage team that narrowly lost their first game of the season last weekend by one wicket at second-placed Broadstone.

Dorchester trail the pacesetters by 28 points and Mitchem says the clash has “all the makings” of a competitive game.

He told Echosport: “We’re all looking forward to it. We’re in good form so we’re confident and we’ll approach it the same as the last four games, nothing different.

“I’m very confident that we can get the result we want. I’ve not had a look at their scorecards but we’ll concentrate on what we can do and doing the right things.

“It’s up to us to go there and do the business. Whatever team they put out we’ll approach it the same way,” he said.

“They will obviously be very pleased with the start they’ve had, but everyone wants to beat them and they become a target. I am sure they will be wanting to get back to winning ways.

“It’s got all the makings of a competitive game of cricket.”

Despite travelling to the league leaders, Mitchem is only concerned with how his side go about their work.

“If we look after our own house and make sure we do the things we’ve been doing, we’re confident. It’s all about taking that form that we have been in the last few weeks with bat and ball.

Dorchester are set to make two changes to the side that beat Shillingstone by 97 runs, with Steve Clifford and Josh Richardson returning to the side to replace James Caldwell and Jack Owens, who miss out through unavailability.

“Jack Owens is away and James is unavailable. I don’t think we’ve had to make more than two changes for a game all season, which is good.

“We’re disappointed those two can’t play but Josh and Steve are a straight swap and we’re happy with what we have brought in,” Mitchem said.

With so few changes being made, Mitchem moved to reassure Dorchester’s fringe and second-team players that they are not being overlooked when it comes to selection for the first team.

He said: “We always say we play for Dorchester, not the first or second team – all of the players have that attitude.

“We have our eyes on what they’re doing and we have always tried to promote from within.”
