WEYMOUTH captain Simon Browne is hoping to “upset the formbook” when his side tackle runaway leaders Bere Regis at Redlands in County Division One tomorrow (1.30pm).

The Seasiders sit in a healthy third position with five wins behind them but trail their opponents by 38 points going into the game.

Bere Regis have won each of their eight games this season, dropping just six points, but Browne has his eyes set on defeating them.

He told Echosport: “I think it’s likely to be the biggest game of the season, but somebody has got to beat them. I’m sure they’ve got ideas of going through the season unbeaten.

“If they have an off day and we play to our potential we can upset the formbook, with everyone making a contribution with bat, ball and in the field.

“They should probably win the league with their form this season. It’s a tough ask to win the game but we’ll see what we can do.”

Last weekend Weymouth experienced their third final-over shootout of the season against Poole Town Seconds – their second in two weeks – and took their record to two wins from three.

Browne admitted that he has drawn confidence from winning that type of match.

“I always take confidence from a win, it can become a habit. With tight games like that it’s good to come out on the right side. Hopefully everybody is learning from that.

“We normally don’t tend to play in that many last-over finishes but they are good to be involved in.”

Weymouth are set to make at least three changes from last week, with Dave Blackman, Cube Whyte and Dean Janaway all missing out.

Spinner Harry Mitchell and all-rounder Dom Webb both return, with Browne set to make a late decision on a third player.

Weymouth Seconds’ bowler Tim Guyett is thought to be in the mix following a series of impressive displays, with Browne revealing the seamer was set for a place in the first team last week until work disrupted that plan.

“He would have been involved with us last weekend but it’s encouraging with his second-team performances. It’s nice to know there someone there that can come into contention,” Browne said.

n Weymouth Seconds will face Bere Regis Seconds in County Division Six at Bere Regis Rec tomorrow.

Weymouth lie fifth in the table, 37 points behind leaders Bere, who lead Symene by 21 points.
