PORTLAND Red Triangle captain Matt Randell is looking for his second-placed side to show leaders Compton House “what we’re about” during their top-of-the-table clash in County Division Two tomorrow (1.30pm).
Triangle will field an unchanged side and visit their title rivals with just two points separating the two sides in the standings, and Randell expects the victors to go on and win the league.
He told Echosport: “The boys are up for travelling there and showing them what we can do. They are a bit of a new team to us so it will be nice to show them what we’re about.
“I think whoever comes out on top will definitely go into the second half of the season feeling that they can win the league.”
After some terrific bowling displays, Randell has called for his batsmen to deliver in their biggest game of the season to date.
“Our bowling unit has got us out of trouble a lot. Our batting has been nowhere near as good as it can be. Hopefully when that clicks we can show we’re an all-round team,” he said.
Regardless of the outcome, Randell is pleased with his young side’s progression in recent years, and said star all-rounder Simon Proffitt is in the “best form I’ve ever seen him in”.
He said: “When I started (as captain) I brought in a few young players and this season we’ve shown how far we’ve come but we’re yet to see the finished model.
“People in the team look at Simon as being our best player. He’s enjoyed that and he’s in the best form I’ve ever seen him in.”
