DORSET’S Jigar Naik continued his impressive form with the ball by claiming five wickets on day one of his side’s MCCA Championship clash against Herefordshire at Colwall.

Having taken 10 wickets in the game during the defeat against Wiltshire last time out, the former Leicestershire professional recorded figures of 5-75 from 27.1 overs this time round.

Herefordshire were bowled out for 262 having won the toss and elected to bat first.

After reducing the home side to 123-6, a stand of 108 between Herefordshire’s Barney Morgan (68) and Jack Taylor (41) frustrated Dorset throughout the afternoon.

But Naik was on hand to dismiss Taylor with a catch off his own bowling, and run out Morgan, as the home side looked to accelerate the scoring rate during their final 10 overs.

Mark Wolstenholme (2-57) and Bradley Currie (1-29) were the other Dorset bowlers to strike, while Herefordshire’s number three Peter Burgoyne made a big contribution with 60.

In reply, Dorset lost opener Ed Ellis (1), Luke Webb (14) and Michael Porter (7) before the close to finish on 52-3.

The away will resume on day two with opener Sam Collins (22no) and skipper Chris Park (2no) at the crease.
