WEYMOUTH captain Simon Browne is hoping his side are “more resolute” with the bat after last weekend’s dismal batting performance against Bere Regis.

The Seasiders entertain Cerne Valley at Redlands in County Division One tomorrow (1.30pm) having been bowled out for a feeble 50 against the league leaders.

Browne told Echosport he is looking to get that memory “out of our system immediately” as his side embarks on the second half of the season.

He said: “There’s no getting away from it, last weekend was pretty awful. I want to try and get that out of our system immediately.

“Let’s hope we’re a bit more resolute with our batting performance than we were last week, otherwise we’ll be on the end of another beating.

“I’d like to think we’ll score more than 50 on Saturday but that’s about taking responsibility.”

Browne also called for his team to eke out the runs in the lower order.

“It’s not just the batsmen it’s absolutely everybody, that’s the beauty of cricket. If nine, 10 and 11 get 10 runs each it’s enough to push that total up to a defendable total.

“That’s been the difference in a couple of games. Our bowling has been pretty effective. We always do a reasonably good job of containing sides. Give us a total to defend and we’ll make a good fist of the game,” he said.

Weymouth are set to make at least four changes from Saturday’s line-up with Paul Collins, Tim Guyett and Kieron Womble all unavailable, while Paul Payne will be out for up to six weeks following a hernia operation.

Dean Janaway, Dom Webb and Dave Blackman all return, with Australian batsman Doug Williams also in contention.
