WEYMOUTH chairman Cube Whyte is aiming to arrest the Seasiders’ poor form with a win against Poole Town Seconds at Redlands in County Division One tomorrow (1.30pm).

With no win since late June, Weymouth are still mathematically vulnerable to relegation and, having lost several games against teams placed lower than them, Whyte is hoping for a reversal in fortunes.

He told Echosport: “The bottom sides haven’t had many wins but a lot seem to be against Weymouth. Hopefully we can get the result. We’ve had more trouble against teams lower than us.”

But the Seasiders are boosted this week by a welcome return from some key players, with all-rounders Bill Trevett and Jonny Armfield set to make their debut first-team appearances of the season.

Whyte said: “Both of them have been itching to play, they have played some Sunday cricket. Bill’s been on babysitting duties and Jonny’s been working.

“He swapped his Saturday shift this week for a Sunday. It’s quite handy because obviously he’s a very good cricketer.

Meanwhile, Whyte confirmed that Paul Payne would skipper the side for the remaining two games of the season.

“Paul’s an experienced captain and he really enjoyed last week,” he said.
