PORTLAND Red Triangle warmed up for their opening County Division One clash at Broadstone Seconds tomorrow (1.30pm) with a six-wicket friendly win over Weymouth at Redlands.
Bowling first, Kiwi overseas player Kyle Sloane took 2-7, while young spinner Jack Marsh also impressed with 2-29 as Triangle held Weymouth to 85-8 from 18 overs, Sloane (26), Simon Proffitt (13no) and Ollie Whisker (12no) then the main protagonists in the successful run chase.
And skipper Matt Randell said the signs were good ahead of their trip to Delph Woods.
He told Echosport: “We’ve prepared quite well this year. It was nice to see our young spinner Jack come in and then our young opening bowler Tom Hinde.
“Callan Laws scored a few more and it’ll suit him moving him up to the top of the order.”
He added: “We’re going in with every intention of doing well. We’re not going to use it as a season to consolidate our place, we’re going to look for a top-three spot.”
