MARTINSTOWN completed a league and cup double as the West Dorset Indoor League, sponsored by Weymouth Tandoori, concluded for this season with a thrilling competition in the under-16s’ section.

Semi-final one: BEAMINSTER 135-3 beat DORCHESTER 134-4 by 3 wkts

IN A PULSATING game, Beaminster edged out a valiant Dorchester with three balls to spare.

Batting first, Dorchester were soon in trouble with the prolific Billy Baker being run out for five with only 11 runs on the board.

Nathen Quinn (15) followed shortly after as Beaminster’s bowlers gained the upper hand.

Ben Alford led a recovery with a steady 38 not out and, with support from Ben Hunter (17) and Remy Wood (17), kept the scoreboard ticking over at a reasonable rate, with C O’Toole adding a hard-hitting 18 in the final few overs as Dorchester closed on 134-4.

Beaminster openers L Keenen (32no) and Ben Leather (25no) set about the target with gusto as 65 runs came off the first four overs.

N Moss (38) continued in fine fashion with some well-placed shots and a element of luck as Dorchester’s bowlers fought back and reduced the run-rate.

Oliie Burnham was then trapped lbw for nought by Quinn (3-0-30-2) as the game moved towards a thrilling climax. With five needed off the last over it was down to Moss to hit the winning runs with three balls remaining.

Semi-final two: MARTINSTOWN 37-0 beat BERE REGIS 36 by 6 wkts

LOOKING to clinch a league and cup double, Martinstown made light of a brave Bere Regis who had no answer to the all-round abilities of a rampant side playing at their best.

Batting first, Bere began slowly with just six runs coming from the first over.

Will Maltby then produced an amazing run out to dismiss J George (0) and, with Charlie Durant (2-0-11-2) clean bowling both Pagett and H Green for singles, the writing was on the wall.

Another amazing run-out from Maltby and an incredible catch from Finlay Williams to dismiss K Woodhouse for four left Bere’s innings in tatters and it was soon brought to a close with Williams running out Oliie Mayo for a brave 14 as Bere were dismissed for 36.

Martinstown were made to fight by a brave Bere attack, but were never troubled as Sean Williams (14no) and Matthew Lappin (17no) closed out the win with 6.4 overs to spare.

Final: MARTINSTOWN 145-3 beat BEAMINSTER 106-4 by 39 runs

BATTING first, it what promised to be a thrilling final Martinstown began steadily with openers Sean Williams (56no) and brother Finlay Williams (33) putting on 61 in the first five overs.

With both having to retire, Beaminster fought back running out the dangerous Will Maltby for nought and this was soon to be followed as Will Moss ran out Coombes (4) as Beaminster looked to impose their authority on the game.

However, despite the loss of Lappin (0) to another run-out, a hard-hitting 32 from Charlie Durant and, further well placed shots from the returning Williams brothers, Martinstown closed on a challenging 145-3.

Beaminster’s reply was soon in trouble as a ‘dead eye’ throw from Lappin accounted for Ben Leather (4) and Maltby clean bowled the dangerous Lewis Keenan for 13.

The Martinstown attack then took control as excellent bowling backed up by superb fielding slowed the run-rate.

With three overs left, Beaminster needed 74 for victory and, despite a late flourish from Will Moss (28) and Adam Moss, the target proved to be beyond their reach as Martinstown ran out worthy winners to complete a double in an undefeated season.
