ALL-rounder Mark Wolstenholme played a starring role as Dorset made an impressive start to their Unicorns T20 campaign.

Wolstenholme claimed eight wickets and scored 115 runs as Dorset soared to the top of group four after winning three of their first four matches in the new competition.

The 38-year-old paved the way for their first win against Wiltshire in a double-header at Bashley on Sunday by following up his 2-23 with 29 in their six-wicket triumph.

Josh Digby (2-28) and Jigar Naik (2-15) helped Dorset restrict Wiltshire to 118-8 before Wolstenholme and Scott Currie (32no) saw them over the line with an over to spare.

Naik (2-13) and Brad Currie (2-15) put the brakes on Wiltshire in the second match, the visitors totalling a modest 136-7, thanks to a first-wicket stand of 69 between Ed Young and Tom Morton.

A second-wicket partnership of 54 between Ed Ellis (53) and Luke Webb (46no) ensured Dorset reached 138-6, their four-wicket victory coming with three balls in hand.

Wolstenholme (43) and Alex Eckland (21) continued the momentum against Devon in Sidmouth as Dorset posted 139-7 before dismissing the hosts for 103.

Dorset’s 36-run victory was built around a fine effort with the ball with Wolstenholme (3-20), Naik (3-29), Josh McCoy (2-14) and Max Waller (2-20) all chipping in.

Although Wolstenholme claimed 3-22 and hit 40 in their second match against Devon, the hosts’ 159-5 proved a bridge too far for the visitors as they fell short at 129-9 with Eckland (48) top scoring in their 30-run defeat.
