BUDMOUTH moved to share the lead at the top of Swift Signs Division One following their 34-run win against fellow title challengers Saggies.
It was a good all-round performance from Budmouth as Phil Morley (51) and Rob Waite (31) gave them a great start, with Morley being particulary severe on both the Browne brothers – Alex and Simon.
Paul Gadsby (1-22) was the pick of the Saggies’ bowlers as Budmouth made 127-2 from 16 overs.
In reply, Saggies found Morley and Neil Walton (3-28) difficult to get away as they fell behind the required rate, and a regular fall of wickets meant Budmouth were always in control.
Echo Cup runners-up New Look enjoyed a comfortable 96-run win over Tandoori Longshots.
Andy Fulton hit a fabulous 110 not out, supported by Kieron Womble (22) and Rich Cole (31 not out), to help New Look score 178-2 from 18 overs.
A fine opening spell from Geoff Lloyd (4-28) and Faraz Ulhaq (2-24) effectively ended Longshots’ chase with the early loss of Phil Eaton.
Mark Hardy (36) held firm before he was caught and bowled by Ulhaq and Longshots slumped to 82 all out.
Wessex Gasworks continue to keep up the pressure on Division Two leaders The Lugger with a seven-wicket win against Cosmos.
Cosmos were hit by the early dismissals of dangerous openers Brian Keane and Rob Hodges, but recovered thanks to useful contributions from Sims (23) and Montgomery (29) as they scored 117-6 from 18 overs.
The Gasworks lost three quick wickets as Cruickshank (1-28) and Brown (2-26) swung the game in Cosmos’ favour, though skipper Derek Millen (43 not out) and Gareth Price (53 not out) had other ideas and brought their side home with two overs to spare.
The Lugger maintained their one-point advantage at the top of the table with victory against the Portland Arms.
Steven Browne (2-23) rolled back the years as he accounted for the Lugger’s top run-scorer Richard Bament, but the Lugger were indebted to the father and son duo of Eddie and Adam Rose whose partnership helped them to 129-4 from 18 overs.
Pete Jarvis (3-5) and Andy Thorne (2-7) ripped through the Arms’ top order, but a valiant 32 not out from skipper Jody Locke gave the islanders hope, However, they ended 47 runs short at the close.
