Ryan confident despite having to make changes

WEYMOUTH Seconds will make five changes for their top-of-the-table tussle with Blandford Seconds at Redlands tomorrow (2pm).

With Kieron Womble, Andy Jarvis and Steve Budd all unavailable and Sean Fitzgerald and Rob Nobbs having been called up by the first team, the Seasiders have drafted in Hugh Lawes, Jonny Armfield, Simon Mitchem, Vijay Mote and Jack Croker.

Despite all the changes skipper John Ryan remains confident ahead of the clash, which could prove pivotal in the race for promotion in Dorset League Division Two come the end of the season.

He said: “It is a massive game. They have pulled into third and are now right on our heels, and with leaders Winton having lost again last week there are now three teams close together at the top of the table.

“It is unfortunate that we will be missing the likes of Kieron, Andy and Steve but what their absences have done is provide an opportunity for others to return to the side and stake a claim.

“Vijay has dropped down from the firsts and Hugh Lawes returns, while the likes of Simon Mitchem, Jonny Armfield and Jack Croker, who is now back from illness, have the chance to nail down a place in the team for the rest of the season.

“The team is still strong with a mixture of experience and youthful exuberance, and as long as we put together some partnerships in our batting then we should stand a very good chance of claiming a positive result.”

Weymouth: H Lawes, Lamb, Armfield, Browne, Doidge, Mitchem, Mote, Trotter, Croker, Pearce, Ryan.
