Four up for Saints

ST GEORGE’S toasted another successful summer as they collected their fourth Division One title in succession at the Dorchester & District Read Woodruff Evening League presentation night.

The Saints finished top of the pile for fourth straight year with Cerne Valley edging into second spot.

Hazelbury Bryan romped to the Division Two title while Frampton lost just one game all season en route to the third tier crown.

This year’s Knockout Cup meanwhile, was won by 2008 runners-up Martinstown.

Individual prizes were also presented at the Jewson Stadium event with wicketkeeper Brian Keegan, from St George’s, scooping the Dobell Cup for most stumpings and catches, alongside Bryan’s Will Howes, for the third year in a row.

Hazelbury Bryan’s joy continued as Alfie Fitzgerald bagged the Bugler Cup for most runs scored, thanks to his emphatic haul of 474, and the Jeffrey Trophy for most sixes hit – an impressive 25 in all.

Team-mate Dave Cleave also had reason to celebrate as he was joint winner, with Dean Rogerson of Bere Regis, of the Bailey Cup for most wickets.

The prize for most outfield catches – the Stickland Cup – was shared by five men who all accumulated seven over the course of the season.

The men with the safe pairs of hands were Lucas Allen (Puddletown), Lee Haynes (Dorchetser Youth), Pete Macklin (Bere Regis), Justin Miller (Dewlish) and B Walbridge (Cattistock).

Mike King was rewarded with the Bill Edwards Trophy for outstanding achievement while young guns Dave Griffiths of Herrison Youth and Marcus Evans of Martinstown Seconds collected the Umpires’ Cup and D Ray Trophy respectively.

Other award winners included Dan Belt (Derek Gale Trophy), S Bailey (C J Knott Trophy) and Sam Goodhew (Boothman Trophy).

The final gong was the Reg Standfield Trophy for sportsmanship and that went to Bere Regis.
