WEYMOUTH Seconds celebrated winning Dorset Funeral Plan League Division Two this summer at their end of season presentation evening at Greenhill Bowls Club.

Dorset over-50s’ star Andy Jarvis led the way from the top of the order with 408 runs, averaging 34 with two magnificent knocks in the 90s.

There were contributions from experienced clubmen Michael Pearce, Ben Doidge and club coach Sean Fitzgerald.

This was complemented with starlets Kieron Womble – scoring 336 and averaging 56 – along with eye-catching all-rounders James Almond, Simon Mitchem, Cameron Armfield and leg spinner Jack Croker.

Second team skipper John Ryan said: “What a season and what a privilege it was to be charged with guiding a combination of the cream of South Dorset’s most experienced and youth players during the hardest fought Championship ever won.

“Not many captain’s team talk at the start of the last game of the season begins with, ‘we are top lads, but 20 points might not be enough’.

“That just about sums up a season where the difference between winning the league and relegation was four victories. Every weekend threw up results which belied each team’s league position with so many going to the last gasp over or last ball.

“Without doubt, all the on-field efforts are to be commended from all the club players but we must salute the work of our hard-working administrative members and sponsors’ generosity to which we can look forward to enhancing the chances of first team Premier Division success next season.

“It is a proud boast to be one of only two Dorset clubs playing in the top two leagues and with the Dorset County side returning next season to Redlands, fantastic tracks and outfield, it caps a fine 2009 for the Seasiders.”
