DORCHESTER Cricket Club celebrated the end of the season with a dinner-dance at the Jewson Stadium’s Prince’s Marquee.
Guest speaker was ex-Somerset and England A wicket-keeper Rob Turner, who entertained more than 100 players, vice-presidents, sponsors and other guests with jokes and stories from his playing career.
The players and guests finished the evening with a live perforance from local band Jigsaw.
Last year, under Martyn Richards’ leadership, the first team won the Premier League for the first time in over 20 years, and followed that up this season by finishing a credible fourth.
The second string, relegated from Division One by one bonus point, were hampered by work commitments of experienced players who had helped achieve promotion the previous season.
However, the young third team did replicate the 2008 season by winning the Division Seven title, remaining unbeaten and only dropping an incredible six bonus points during the season.
Sixteen-year-old James Dunham took the first-team bowling honours, taking 18 wickets with an average of only 14.78 in his first season in the Premier League.
Dave Maslen returned to the club and picked up the first-team batting award, averaging over 50.
The second-team batting honours went to captain Ollie Bennett and the bowling award to Ian Sibley, while the third-team batting prize went to the prolific run machine Jae Miller, who notched 662 runs at an average of 47.
Lloyd Mitchem picked up the third-team’s bowling gong, taking 21 wickets for an average of only 12.
The prestigious club all-rounder award went to Rob Waite who had a tremendous season.
He finished second in the first-team batting and bowling averages and second for most catches.
The performance of the season award was presented to Dan Belt.
The club’s thanks went to sponsors the Hearn Group, Emma, Vic, Ed and Emily from the Victoria Hotel as well as scorers and umpires.
