PAUL Payne has given Weymouth a timely boost ahead of their final match of the summer.
The Seasiders’ skipper is back from a lengthy spell on the sidelines, and after helping out the seconds last week, the opening batsman is ready for a first-team return.
And he goes straight into the side for tomorrow’s visit of Stalbridge (1pm).
Tom England, who also returns after missing last week’s defeat at second-placed Parley, is delighted to see Payne back in action.
He said: “Payner is back this week. He played for the twos last week and will take over the reins for us this week.
“He strained his side a while back and then had an operation on his knee. The seconds were short last week and needed him to play, and thankfully he came through it unscathed and has had no side effects.
“Having him back is a real bonus.”
Despite losing at Parley, Weymouth pocketed enough points to secure their Dorset Premier League status for another year.
And to celebrate their survival, England is determined to end the season on a high.
He added: “It would be nice to end the season with a win, especially after losing our last five games.
“However, Dean Janaway said the lads played really well at Parley last weekend and they were very committed, which is good to hear. Hopefully we can go out with a bang tomorrow.
“It’s our last game and we are safe from relegation, so we just have to enjoy it.”
Matt Lawes is also back in the Seasiders’ line-up with Jonny Armfield, Will McKay and Andy Jarvis making way.
Weymouth: Payne, Ryall, Womble, England, Janaway, M Lawes, Doidge, Fitzgerald, Pearce, Nobbs, Rathnayake.
n Weymouth Seconds’ final outing in Division One takes place at Marnhull (1.30pm).
