NICK Cheeseman was in superb form with the willow as Bere Regis returned to winning ways in Dorchester Evening League Division Two.

The top-order batsman plundered 80 runs as his side set an imposing total of 167-2.

And the task proved too great for visiting Abbotsbury, who managed 128-5 in reply with Steve Cheeseman (2-38) leading the Bere attack.

The victory came after back-to-back defeats for the second-placed outfit.

Following their first loss of the season against Puddletown, Bere Regis (116-5) fell at the hands of an Ian Booth-inspired Winfrith (133-3).

The all-rounder finished unbeaten on 40 not out before restricting the visitors with figures of 3-26 to help maintain the league leaders’ 100 per cent record.

Kieron Womble hit an unbeaten half-century as Churches United continue to lead the way in the third tier.

The table-toppers posted 130-3 before skittling Puddletown Res-erves for 52, thanks largely to the efforts of Matt Stevens (4-15).

Elsewhere, R Wormgoor’s fifer (5-8) propelled Charlton Down Seconds (43-4) to victory in their basement battle with Puddletown RFC (39 all out).
