WEYMOUTH Cricket Club have snapped up a new overseas player for their forthcoming Dorset Funeral Plan Premier Division campaign.

Andrew Falloon, a left-arm seamer and middle-order batsman, played against the Seasiders in the first of their three games on their recent tour of New Zealand and really impressed.

Weymouth player Paul Payne, who was one of the main organisers behind the trip Down Under, said: "Andrew is 23 and as soon as we mentioned to him the opportunity to come over he was as keen as mustard to get it sorted out.

"He bowled superbly against us and got several of us out, including me, and he is a really nice lad.

"He is now just waiting for his visa to come through which he should receive in the third week of this month and then he will be ready to fly over in time for our first game of the season in the first week of May.

"He should prove to be a great addition for us because we were looking slightly short on the bowling front, having lost Dan Belt to Dorchester."

Of Belt's departure to their local rivals, Payne added: "To lose someone of his calibre is always going to be a blow but he has got to do what he has got to do and we have to get on with it."

The Seasiders lost all three of the games they played on tour but Payne was pleased with how the trip went.

He said: "It was a great experience for everyone and we got out of it what we wanted to.

"Many thanks go to Wessex Pankl, formerly Wessex Pin, for sponsoring our tour shirts which was very much appreciated."
