PHIL Simkin has labelled the Magpies’ upcoming television appearance, which carries a cash boost of almost £64,000, as “a dream come true”.

Dorchester Town’s FA Cup clash with Plymouth Argyle has been chosen by ESPN as one of their featured games for the first round proper.

The Avenue tie will be shown live on Sunday, November 4 (4.30pm) with each club set to pocket an impressive £63,800 for the privilege.

And after hearing the news, the county town boss could not hide his delight.

Simkin, who was due to scout the Pilgrims at Cheltenham last night, told Echosport: “For a club like ours it’s unbelievable – a dream come true.

“A year ago we were struggling to pay wages from one week to the next but now we have made nearly £90,000 in prize money and television money – just imagine if we actually beat Plymouth.

“We’ve had a bit of luck but this is how it’s dropped into place. It is a West Country derby and there is the potential of a giantkilling.”

One man who will unfortunately miss out on the excitement is Exeter City loanee Jamie Reid, as his short-term deal expires prior to the Pilgrims’ visit.

However, Simkin is hopeful that a replacement will be found in the coming days, as well as securing a one-month extension for fellow Grecian Jake Gosling.

He added: “Jamie won’t be available for the cup tie unfortunately as his loan runs out and we are unable to extend it because of the 93-day limit.

“We do hope to extend Jake’s loan for a third month and hopefully we will also have a new front player coming in on loan this week who isn’t cup-tied. However, I can’t say any more than that at the moment.”

Another striker – Rico Wilson – was expected to train with the Magpies last night following his release from prison.

Simkin, whose side host Tonbridge Angels this Saturday (3pm), said: “Rico has apparently been released and we are still looking to take him back.

“He has a knack of scoring goals and he is a great lad really. This really is the last chance saloon so let’s hope we can look after him.”

Ticket prices for the FA Cup encounter are as follows: Adults £15 (stand) and £10 (terrace), over-65s £6.50 (terrace) and under-18s £5.

Further details on when tickets are available to purchase will follow in due course.
