South & West Counties Under-16 Championship

DORSET 1 GLOUCESTERSHIRE 0

DORSET overcame their Gloucestershire counterparts with a winner just two minutes from the end.

With time running out, the hosts secured all three points when Joshua Rose headed in a perfectly-placed corner from captain Todd Coombs.

The first shot on target at the County Ground, Hamworthy, came in the 23rd minute when the visitors’ Walter Greenwood unleashed a fine low drive only for Jack Carter in the home goal to make a terrific parry low down to his right. Five minutes later, Dorset striker Jake Line saw his well-struck effort saved by Ben Reed in the Gloucestershire goal.

Dorset’s best passage of play in the first half came on 29 minutes when a great move involving Antony Waters and Jonah Ayunga down the left resulted in the Gloucestershire defence scrambling the ball away for a corner.

The best chance of the half fell five minutes before the break when Gloucestershire’s Brandon Talbot fired wide when well placed.

Most of the chances in the second half fell to the visitors, including two efforts that completely missed the target, and Gloucestershire were left to regret it.
