Simkin lines up a double swoop

RECENT ACQUISITION: Jordan Chiedozie

RECENT ACQUISITION: Jordan Chiedozie

PHIL Simkin is determined to add more firepower to his county town ranks and has lined up two potential new signings.

The Magpies may only have brought in AFC Bournemouth loanee Jordan Chiedozie six days ago but with fellow forward Jamie Reid set to return to parent club Exeter City after Sunday’s FA Cup tie with Plymouth, Dorchester’s boss is keen to add to his arsenal.

Former Weymouth skipper Warren Byerley has been training with the club recently but Simkin refused to identify the men in question.

He said: “It’s no secret that I am desperate to get another front player in.

“I have spoken to the chairman and he is aware of the situation. I would like to think that with what has happened recently we will be able to strengthen the side and I have always known that area is not a particularly strong point of our game.

“I am hoping to get one, if not two in. One of them is with a Conference Premier team but both are cup-tied so they won’t be involved against Plymouth on Sunday whatever happens.

“There is no rush as a result but we are looking to strengthen and hopefully we can sort something out.”

Simkin is also keeping tabs on Gary Bowles, who was released by AFC Bournemouth last week.

Commenting on the ex-Magpie, he added: “As I understand it Gary’s agreement at Bournemouth has come to an end but as yet I haven’t spoke to him personally.

“We have lots of irons in the fire and he could be one of them.”

Dorchester’s impressive run in the FA Cup has already netted £24,500 in prize money, with the club also set to receive £63,800 as part of Sunday’s live television coverage.

Despite their new-found wealth, Simkin insists there will be no rash purchases.

He said: “Players are not daft. They will know we have come into some money and when you start talking to them they suddenly become more expensive.

“But I will make sure that whatever money we use to strengthen the squad we will use properly as it’s more important to see that the club is stable.”

* The Magpies will visit Didcot Town in the third qualifying round of the FA Trophy on November 10 after the latter defeated Poole Town 2-0 in last night's replay.

Let Stuart Heath find the new players-at least he has some idea of who is any good. Our current manager has no idea and is lucky to be in a job.Resign and let Stuart take over

Well!!! It is very reassuring to see that it is not just Weymouth that has total morons among its fanbase.
